Had an odd and alarming issue on the water today.

I think your prop shaft goes directly through the v-drive and is secured at the end of the shaft by a coupler. If the coupler is turning with the end of the shaft also turning, but the rest of the shaft isn't turning, it might be an indication that the prop shaft has sheared within the v-drive shaft tube. Can you grab the shaft and turn it independently of the transmission (while the engine is off of course)?

Thank you guys for all the insight you provided. The starboard side prop shaft broke near the coupling. The technician stated it looked like it had some stress cracks for a little while before it actually severed. Everything else was there and good to go. I ordered a new prop shaft and it will be installed soon. The company I ordered the shaft from said they kept them in stock as it's not uncommon. Can't wait to get back on the water!
