This will probably be flushed to the holding tank but waddaya think?
http://today.msnbc.msn.com/id/46316454 They legally purchase firearms, setting up the sales in parking lots like some clandestine operation. Oh my, oh my...what people won't do for 'profit' they say. To me this report comes off biased and deceptive in it's presentation.

That's no different that picking up your local trading journal, calling the seller, setup a meeting place, and making the purchase.

Difficult to stop that sort of sell.

Interesting how they do not call the transaction a private sale but rather an "online sale". They did use the phrase "private sale" but only to describe what the NRA opposes, not what they propose. I love how these stories pretend there were no murders before guns were invented and that if only that Canadian could not have bought a gun the victim would still be here.

...and what about the near movie like presentation and dramatics???

We call it the 2nd Amendment. Like many of our rights, it is intended to protect us, but there will always be some that choose to abuse it.

Gun transfers of "legal to own" guns between individuals are perfectly legal.

This may come as a shock to some but I'm in 100% agreement.

The "what if's" on this practice are many and in most cases a boondoggle. As long as it is a legal gun and not stolen it should be legal.

By "legal to own", I mean, not a machine gun or a sawed off (< 18" barrel) shotgun. Receiving or selling stolen property is illegal, even if it's not a gun.

Yes... like Woody indicated "this report comes off biased and deceptive in it's presentation".

Those buyers just happened to find the guns on the internet, but it ended up being a "private sale" as you say. They realy twisted it!

Funny you should post this article. When we bought a house down in AZ I wanted to buy a gun to keep in the house. Knowing that I would have great difficulty proving that I did, in fact, own a residence in AZ I didn't want the hassle of going to a gun store. I picked up a copy of the Phoenix paper, found a gun I liked, called the owner, and he agreed to meet me in a parking lot in NE PHoenix. I inspected the gun, gave him the money, we shook hands and departed.

Now THAT is how it should be done. No paperwork, no background check, no names exchanged, just a buyer and seller who agreed on a price and made a legal exchange.

Or you can just have them handed down from father to son. The old fashion way. But if you need a hand gun and your dad still wants to keep his then this is the best way to get one legally without government hassle.

That's why you should buy it. Then it's off the streets. Every gun I buy takes one more out of the hands of a street thug. It's my moral duty to buy every gun I can to ensure safety of the populace.

No to hijack the thread, but how does one confirm the gun is not stolen?

MM
You get the S/N from him before you meet him, then call the cops to see if it's stolen. If it comes back stolen you can tell them where he'll be, when he'll be there and what he'll be driving, and he'll have the stolen gun with him.

I wasn't a cop for many years to not check into stuff like that.

The internet needs controllin' don't you know, no coincedence here I think. Guns are forsale in newspapers, public store bulletin boards, etc but they drew a bead on the internet. I would not call any purchase or sale they made 'online'. The contact was online...not the sale.

In simple, stupid terms: "legal is legal" and "illegal is illegal". Legislate the "legal" and your left with "illegal". Duh!!! There is no more common sense.
