It's unfortunate, but I agree there are many places where fathers get the short end of the stick, even in what should be clear cut situations. Very sorry your experience isn't a better one, and best wishes for a happy outcome!

I understand all your going thru my son is in the middle of a similar situation & we're helping him as much as we can to get full custody which is very doubtful in this state, but he will fight till there are no options left. The best we're hoping for is split custody.
As grand parents we have no rights in this state this kills us, we took care of him from when he was born till he was 4 years old, 2 to 3 days a week he's now 8 and we can only see him when my son has him but we hate to take time away from them being together. That's about all I can write it hurts to much.

So sorry to hear of your situation. You definitely have the wrong end of the stick which is an awful shame. There is no doubt that some fathers have a terrible time and don't deserve it. It's always the "bad apples" that spoil it for everyone else. Plus it's not just some of the fathers that are not "stand up guys" there are some terrible mothers out there too. The news cast most nights in FL will have terrible things that both mothers and fathers have done to their poor children and these things are often drug related. Do hope you manage to get custody of your daughter, sounds as if she would be much better off. Good luck!

Uncanny timing that I see this thread. First, congatulations explicitlnck its the best thing Ive ever accomplished.
I am going to court on Tuesday because I have been forced to continue paying child support since mine moved in with me. I stopped paying when my son moved to my house after he finished high school, mom refuses to tell agency in charge so they have been garnishiing my money until I get a court order, it has taken almost a year to move through the system to get a court date.
She also took me to court because I paid our older daughters tuition without asking her for anything so she figured she should get more money than the guidelines support. She told the judge " well hes got a nice boat and truck and house..." at least the judge didnt bite.
Anyway just thought Id point out that the system isnt much different here in Canada.

Thank you everybody for the support! After this is all said and done no matter how long it takes and no matter what the outcome, I will push and do everything in my power to take my story public and try to show people how flowed the system is and actually try to change the system were it's actually in the best interest of the child. Not oh mom gets her because she's the mom and we will let the dad c her for 6 hours a week and 2 sleepovers a month because that's what mom says is good. It should be oh dad's an addict and mom has a steady job with no addictions and in good health or ok dad has a good source of income and is sober while mom has addiction issues. I thought it was equal rights male or female. I thought it was for the best in treat of the child. I didn't drop my daughter down a flight of stairs because I was high, I didn't have to rush my baby girl to the hospital and end up putting 8 stitches in her face because let her on the balcony by herself at 10 months old but just because she's the mom she knows best. Again the situation can be flipped and the dad can have these issues so this isn't a sexism thing it's what's in the next in treat of the child and when u tell a judge mom is an addict and a while list of other things and she admits it on the spot and then the judge let's her take full custody not to mention permission to take her on a week vacation 2500 miles away without blinking an eye. Now that is a fed up system. Equal rights male or female and for THE BEST INTREST OF THE CHILD should be it no matter male female or Bruce jenner. Sorry had to end my rant with a joke .
