Grills

We have the Magma cheaper rectangular one mounted on a Magma rod holder mount. Love the mount, hate the grill...too hot on one end. Best dealt with by not leaving it. Have plans to modify the rod holder mount and try something custom when I get around to it.

Are the Magma Infared grills better? They have the plates with a million tiny holes in them.

Same issues with the magma grill. Went to an electric weber and love it. No more just cooking on half of the grill or flame outs. I also got a skillet grate for the magma which allows us to make bacon and pancakes. Cleanup is very easy as weber makes their products very modular.

Burn it off - hit it with a grill brush. I admit I don't spend a lot of time on maintaining a grill. Probably why I don't have a long lifetime with them. Not a lot of TLC on my part.

I have the same grill I think. Never had any spatters or grease issues. Each time I go to use it, I turn it on high and let it get up pretty hot. This pretty much burns off anything inside. Then about once every month and a half, I take it apart and use a wire brush to clean it. All of the black baked on crud brushes right off. Likewise, I spend hardly any time maintaining the thing. It is exactly 2 years old and going strong from what I can tell.

I got this nexgrill from Costco. So far I love the grill and it doesn’t get hot under it. Also it’s from Costco so if you don’t like it you can return it
Are you using a #20 propane tank?

we use a nice stainless portable grill from home depot. uses a tank so i use an adapter for lp bottles, works great. have a heat resistant mat put down on swim or go to the beach and good to go. cools quick and keep in a heavy duty trash bag. not bad even with our tight quarters...

just dont let friends bring thick marinade chicken and make a big mess...LOL
What is your adapter?

We have the weber electric grill. It has served us well for the last 6 years. We cook everything from 1 1/2 inch filet mignon to french toast. The electric really lets you fine tune the heat, more so than the gas version. We have been able to bake biscuits in the morning too. This grill travels from the boat to the camper so it sees lots of use.

Highly recommended

I use an adapter like creekwood posted. They are at any hardware store or Walmart. I got one off of amazon for less than $10 and had it delivered in a couple of days.

That's the kind of review I am looking for. Which model do you have?

Thanks,

I have a Catalina which I use on and off the boat. I started out with the cam lock rod holder

I didn't like it hanging over the side, and the fiberglass, so I built a tripod stand with the tall table leg, one of these,

and a home made insert that resembles a rod holder, made from PVC. I set that on the dive platform.

Then, one day I was cooking on the deck (fortunately!), accidentally bumped the cam lock, and it fell to the side.
The next day I installed these:

I have been setting it on the cockpit table when onboard. As soon as I get a spare roundtoit, I will build one of these:

or this

BTW, I found I can control the breeze blowouts by rolling up some aluminum foil and sticking it in the back vent between the lid and the body. With another roundtoit, I will devise a way to attach SS plates to the vent, and still be able to open the lid.

I will have to look for the exact model, ours has been replaced by the current generation electric. We have the smaller grill , fits 6 ears of corn, or 6 burgers at time. The cast iron grates burn off real nice, disposable grease tray, and parts are readily available. We did replace the heat element last year, but the part was reasonably priced and an easy diy job.

I will say that our electric baby q is the envy of every weber gas baby q owner on the dock. No gas bottles to deal with and endless electricity available.

Edit: we have the predecessor or the current Q1400

I’ve owned a few magmas now we have the largest one they make had it 4 years now and it never gave me any grief
Doesn’t blow out at I’m not sure if I’d like an electric due to the non flame broiling
It’s like cooking on a skillet
But may have to get one for marina grilling.
