Greetings: I have been reading some of the entries here and I'm getting more confused! I have 2 Garmin's, the echomap 94s (great unit with Sonar) and the echomap 93s and a Standard Horizon 2200 VHF and I would like to connect these units to read the AIS from the radio to the chartplotter(s). I noticed the chartplotters have the black(-) and red(+) for power and 2 tiny wires for the connection to the VHF but which colors go to each unit? Is is best to wire thru a bus bar or solder the wires together? I see all this stuff for NEMA 0183, Is that something I need? I'm just an old guy trying to learn! Help me. Thanks.........

You've kind of painted yourself into a corner with this combination. All three units support NMEA 0183, but only the 94s has NMEA 2000 which would make for a much preferred network.

Here's an article that gives you a rough idea of what you are getting into. This is one of those 'if you have to ask, it's best to hire a pro' questions, as there is not a simple hook the x wire to the y wire answer. Now if you aren't locked into that 2200 VHF, you could find one that supports NMEA 2000. That would greatly simplify the whole project although it would only show AIS targets on your 94s in that configuration.

You’ve also painted yourself into a corner by posting the same question in four different places on the forum....

I'm kinda new at this forum stuff, was not sure where to post what! Keep directing me and I'll get it right. Thanks for the TIP. So, I should just hook up the Standard Horizon 2200 to the NEMA 2000 on the 94s? Does the radio support NEMA 2000?

Both your plotter and the radio should support 0183. There should be 2 sets of wires coming off of the 2200 (which I have) one set is power and external speaker set. The other is the nmea 0183. Standard Horizon is very responsive over the phone and they will tell you which color in the 0183 set matches the garmin. However, before you call them, open your SH manual to the instructions on the 0183 connection and you'll see a diagram that shows the different wire combinations. My experience was that the wire colors on the garmin side were a bit different than the diagram - note that in your diagram and then just make the connection. You can pm me if you need additional information.

Just remembered I had an electronic copy of my manual. Here's an image of the wire configuration. Note you'll still need to confirm with SH the color combination for the plotter.
