Hi- most of the postings and pics are from back East- Thought I'd send a california shot- from Sunset Harbour ( Near LA) in SoCal. Any other SoCal Searays out there?

SoCal here as well. I slip in Marina del Rey. I know at least one other CSR member that is in MDR as well. DO any of you go to Catalina? If so, how often and what coves? I try to get over once a month if I can, usually The Isthmus or Avalon.
I also make the run down the San Diego once or twice a year. I usually slip at the Marriott Marina down there.

MDR to Avalon is just under 2 hours cruising around 3500 rpms. Even though Avalon is 26 miles offshore, it is about 32 miles from MDR or so. I can make the Isthmus in a little over and hour and a half.
Just made our first trip to Catalina this weekend (April 16) in our recently purchased 268 (old but new for us). Going over about 23 knots at 3000 rpm into a bit of a mixed sea, 30 knots on the return with a slight following sea. Total fuel estimated at about 55 gal for our 454. Seems a little high, but we probably traveled about 75 miles total.
The Isthmus (at mid-point of the Island) is about 30 miles from Sunset Harbor where we launch. Emerald bay, in the picture here, is about 6 miles farther down the island. We had been waiting for a weather window in between the wind and rain, and finally found it. Calm, clear water, beautiful day- hardly a soul around in the spring here. Days like this are the reason we all go boating!!

That's great. You can definitely do Catalina year round down here. I took off mid-week a few weeks back and went diving over on the island for 2 days. Perfect weather. Flat seas and mid to high 70's both days. And...no tourists yet. Perfect time of year.
