Newbie here...just purchased an '06 320DA, based at Lake Lanier in GA, near Atlanta. Got a lot to learn here, would appreciate any comments concerning what to look out for maintenance-wise...Like what are the top five things you do to keep your boat in top running order?

Happy Holidays,
Matt

Welcome aboard, Matt. Great boat. Pictures? Marina or private dock? What is your plan of action to personalize your new acquisition?

My five...
1. Keep it maintained
2. Keep it clean
3. Use it.
4. Beware of freezing temperatures.
5. Hang with boat people who seem to know all about this stuff.

We have spent a lot of time on Lanier, but Allatoona is home. You will have lots of fun on the big water.

Change the oil, transmission fluid and impellers. Then wax and enjoy the boat, there are other things. But the 320 is a great boat from Sea Ray. You will be happy with it until you buy a 40' plus with diesels.

Welcome aboard and welcome to 320 club.

As you get to know the site I suggest to get familiar with the search function. It will save you lots of trouble and money. This board has tons of great and priceless information. Lots of questions have been answered. Please try searching on questions you have in mind. If no luck finding the answers feel free to open new threads with your questions.

Chears,
Alex.

Welcome aboard, lets see some pictures.

All good suggestions above. Here's mine.

1. Don't let your non-boater friends handle the lines
2. Don't let your non-boater friends wear shoes on your boat
3. Don't let your non-boater friend's kids on your boat
4. Make sure your non-boater friends stay in their "docking seats" until you have the engines off at the slip
5. Make sure your non-boater friends know what not to put in your head.

This will save you many dollars on maintenance and repairs.

I believe I would add something about "head" operating. How to use and what does and does not go in?

Just a thought

Matt,
I agree here, if you do not know the history of the boat, and if it has not been done as part of the sale, then change the oil and filters before taking her out. Transmission fluid and filters is not a bad idea for a 06 but the filters for the transmission are a little pricy.

If this is your first boat with inboards take her out and practice, especially if you can find an area with some empty slips. Explore the cabin for all the storage space, like in the aft cabin behind the starboard side seat. Get to know her, and the typical sounds she makes when running normal. In that way the strange sounds will set off alerts for you.

Next, take some pictures and post them here. Enjoy your boat!

PS…. If anyone here post a reply to you about straightening your antenna, don’t get mad and fire back.. (inside joke)

Oh, contraire, not to be a contrairian, but they're almost free. Take them out, clean any gunk out (take note of gunk amount/quality),clean thoroughly with solvent, dry the heck out of them, then re-install them.

If for some wild reason they are not metal, you'll have to replace them.

thanks for all the input! I have started reading the 320 owners thread- great stuff there.

I'lll be basing the boat at Bald Ridge Marina on the SW corner of the Lake; all the filters and fluids, plugs, and batteries were changed as part of the sale, as well as new bottom paint and inspection of all the running gear.

In addition, (I bought the boat from MM) I bought the three year warranty for peace of mind. Going out for the Captains Delivery tomorrow..snow or not!

Next is to name the boat, winterize the water system ( she has a bilge heater) figure out what other accessories I may need near term. I would like to add a TV to the arch in the spring if I can determine whether I can capture a local signal on the lake...)otherwise it'll have to be satellite at the dock), Gotta get some linens for the forward berth ( adjustable??- or is the only option going with rather pricey fitted sheets?).

Some additional linesand a couple of fenders for docking away from the slip.. what else??

Pictures to follow soon..

Matt

Welcome to CSR Matt. Since no one else has mentioned it yet I thought I would. Allow some time with your delivery captain for safety issues. Lay hands on all your vests/gear. He should be able to answer any questions you may have about the on board systems...Radio, co detectors, fire systems, etc...

Hey Matt. congrats on a great boat.this site has been very helpful to me already .nice people and willing to teach.we love our boat so much we wish we lived down south.when i bought it we did oil.filters, impellers and thermostats. it was running a tad warm after that it cooled down just fine both impellers where destroyed. so maint is the key.i dont know if you have to deal with the ethanol problems we have in the northeast but the best advice for that has been said already,,, use it a lot and enjoy!!!!
