I have had a few boats hauled over the years and don;t remember If I gave them a tip. I have my new to me boat getting delivered tomorrow. Do you tip the semi driver or not?

Thanks
Ryan

A lot of truckers will actually ask for more money......they will talk about how much the tolls were or how it was difficult to load blah, blah, blah.......kinda turns me off.......and he wont be looking for $20 either.....he'll want a couple hundred. But to answer your question......its up to you - did you already over pay for the service? is the guy an owner-operator or did you book through a broker? were you happy with the service you got/paid for?

I used to have my boat hauled by a local one man show that had a helper kid with him. The runs were short, 20 or forty miles depending on the situation. I felt as though he took exceptional care of the boat and his helper was also very careful about where straps were placed and pads used to protect things. As I remember I always paid them in cash and tossed an extra $100. He stayed pretty busy with long hauls and I was always appreciative that he would squeeze me in for the short hauls.
Good luck with the move. It is always a nerve racking time.

I thought the guy who delivered my boat did a good job. I tipped him and the 2 escort drivers as well...

Like CD said above., i found it a bit of a nerve racking experience.

Good luck with the move!

I did a long haul move but wasnt present at either end so I didnt do anything.

I've come across the driver that moves my boat in and out of winter storage and so I gave him and his co worker $20 each for lunch. Not a big deal, just a gesture to let them know we appreciate him not trashing out boat. He actually refused at first until I insisted, so i get the sense that they dont see tips very often.

Depends on how happy I am w the service and the driver especially if the driver is an employee.

Whenever a contractor I hire does a great job I always tip.

Good help is hard to find and I don’t want to lose those relationships.

Thanks- This a long haul with a company that primarily just moves boats. Although the price was steep, it was fair. I Think I will throw him some $ has he has been great about sending updated and pics along the way.

Im sure the driver will appreciate your generosity. It’ll come back to you in other ways meaningful to you.

Anyone who does a personalized service for you is a candidate for a little extra lettuce.
