Grand Haven city counsel has motioned to restrict access to the seawall for 90 days due to high water. The guy that made the motion isnt even a boater. He submitted "it sounds like it would be dangerous".

Pretty sure it should be up to the captain. It sure as hell wont damage their precious seawall. The counsel is awaiting public feedback

I went by the wall on Saturday. I think it's all but unusable right now regardless of whether or not they restrict it. There's 8" +/- of space between the water line and the top of the wall with zero wake. Not event the smallest bumper will stay on the wall with even the slightest bit of wake from a passing boat.

Though I agree each captain should make their own call. But there's no way any fiberglass boats should be tying up right now. Zodiaks only this year? :)

I guess that is my point. It shouldn’t be up to the city counsel. They are wanting a 90 day shut down. It wouldn’t matter the water level after they have enacted their 90 day shut down. No good captain would tie up to that seawall with the current water levels. My point is government should have zero say in this. 3 days from now when the water drops again the 90 day ban will still be in effect. Once again these idiot politicians are over reaching their mandate. I am sick to death of government control. They screw up everything they touch. Why should I accept them trying to run my life or “protect my boat”. Morons

I guess I will be spending my money in other harbors this year. KMA Grand Haven

Amen!! They think they need to protect us from ourselves. We can't possibly be smart enough to know better.

BTW: can someone send a pic of this. I'm trying to envision what is happening

I dont have a photo of the wall. I do have a photo of the driveway to the marina which is just a short way from downtown. You can see the river level is above the level of the driveway. I have seen the river level drop 16” in a 24 hour period. This flooding is due to the heavy rains over the last couple of days. It is suppose to be mostly dry weather through the weekend. I fully expect it to drop significantly over the next 2-3 days

Why impose a ban for 90 days, that is what is stupid, they could put signs up based on water levels or limit the size of boats that can tie up. Like Stee6043 said, it would make a nice dinghy Dock for summer.

More government stupidity. Why understand the problem when you can just create an ordinance that goes way too far? I think business owners downtown are going to be leaving in droves. No way they survive the covid shutdown and an inept city counsel

Not looking very good at the moment. Over half of the slips in Grand Haven are flooded and the power to them is shut down. The municiple has transient slips but with the water level this high it is unlikely they will be available at least in the short term. Local boats will probably grab them up as they become available. Because of the shut down there are still a lot of boats on the hard. The marinas are scrambling to get everyone in the water as fast as they can. Best advice is to call ahead and then confirm reservations a day or two ahead of the date. I am certain the water will go down, just not sure when. Best of luck Mike

Well some people tie up to the wall/pier wherever they want to! This was Saturday in GH...

I'm reserved at Grand Haven Municipal the week of June 21st and that's my plan. Hoping we can make the trip and it isn't canceled!

Was in Grand Haven last year for the Lake Michigan CSR gathering. Water wasn't high but it was windy with 6' plus waves on Lake Michigan. Boats were a rockin on the seawall. I wouldn't want to tie off there....

We don’t tie off there when the winds are out of the west. When those waves come right down the channel it blasts that seawall. You would have to be a nitwit to tie off there in even a small amount of waves

Its not just Michigan that has nitwits but I get your point. I like to think of it as natural selection. If you are too stupid to captain a boat safely and make safe decisions then you need to have it destroyed. No amount of government oversight is going to protect an idiot from self destructing. All it does is restrict those of us with at least a shread of common sense.

Its like public schools trying to teach math at the pace of the slowest student. Smart kids are bored out of their mind and learn next to nothing. The slowest kid will still be an idiot but no child left behind....I digress.

damn I’ve been getting on a rant a lot lately. Wth? Old and crotchity I guess
