I have a Garmin 545s with the BlueChart g2 Vision card but did not have the transducer installed, what would the benefit be to having this installed if I don’t fish?

Jack,

I have the Garmin 540s in my boat and I don't often fish. The transducer adds a whole new dimension to this unit. It gives you a detailed look at the bottom contour as you are passing over it. This can be very interesting and helpful to see what lies beneath your keel, especially when the depth is changing dramatically. I use the split screen option to watch my chart and keep an eye on the bottom at the same time.

On the 276C sonar it is nice to see what is under you not just a numeric number, but how it is changing. From rabyers1 post sounds like it would work the same on a 545S.

I have it and it opens all the features that are integrated in the plotter. It allows temp(and speed if you get the paddle wheel one) + Mariner's Eye is a neat feature you won't get without the transducer.

Thanks everyone, Todd what transducer model do you have and is it a transom mount or thru-Hull?

Thanks Todd

Can the standard thru-hull SeaRay SmartCraft stock transducer be used with this, or any other "after market" fishplotter/GPS combination unit? Thanks.

I installed a transom mount transducer a few seasons ago and as was said previously, it opens up all of the features on the GPS. I keep mine split screen as well to follow the chart and the sonar. The install was relatively easy.
