Right now I've got a Garmin GPSMAP 76Cx. For the two lakes we frequent I really don't need it, but this summer we are planning a longer trip on Lake Michigan and a weeklong trip to Dale Hollow. I'm thinking about getting rid of it and getting something nicer. GPSMAP 440 or something similar. What should I be looking for since I'm an inland boater, and have no need for any of the major extras.

I have been thinking about a GPS also although I really do not need one. I am inland on the Tennessee River. I have been looking at the Garmin 545. The 545 is the coastal version but it includes the Tennessee river system. The 535 is the inland lake version. I am not sure which one has the great lakes though. I have played with the demo models in the store and like the usability of it.

I currently have a Lowrance 332c which i use on a pontoon boat to mostly mark fishing spots (not to navigate). I think the lowrance is good. It does its job flawlessly but it's interface is a little difficult to use (i.e. not user friendly).

I'm thinking about getting a new GPS too. I kind of like the Garmin 545, and have had real good experience with their products. I just wish the screen was just a little bigger.

I have a Garmin 230 now and would like to get something with at least the same size 7.1" diagonal screen.

It seems like now Garmin goes from the small screen on the 545 to the big screens that cost a couple of thousand dollars I wish they would come back with something in between.

Either would be quite a bit better than the 76Cx I have now. I probably should get to a store and play with one in person to figure them out better. I thought there used to be a spot on Garmin's website you could view the maps and what they showed, but I can't seem to find it now.

I am in the process of upgrading the electronics on my 320, and I have a Garmin 198C that I am going to sell on e-bay. It works great and is about the same size as the 440.

Let me know if you're interested. I'll make you a good deal.

Hey Joe, I'm looking at the 4208 for my 320 too. How do you like the fit on the 320 dash? Do you have any pics? Do you have the radar and XM unit?

Thanks,

Scott

I love my Garmin 440S. Simple to use, no external hookups, built in maps so no additional costs for cards. Worked for me.
