I assume, over the years, the metal contacts on the plugs get corroded. It is getting rather hard pushing the NEMA plug into my GPS. Recently i have been getting wild depth readings as well (thinking bad contacts?!?!)

Anyways - what do you guys use inside the plug to keep those contacts nice and lubricated? I was thinking dielectric grease. But wasn't sure.

Thanks!

Dielectric would be my first choice, too.

It could also be some dirt build-up - on the outside of the male plug or the inside wall of the female plug.

How 'bout a little vinyl protectant wiped onto the outside of the male plug?

Thanks Dennis. I think i will give that a try!

I checked for build up and didn't see anything. I get a decent amount of resistance as soon as the male goes into the female!

Wait, we talking about plugs here right? ;-)

Well, I know I was talking about plugs, anyways...

Maybe just try cleaning it out real good, too? Meaning, the male/female rubber/plastic part.

Good idea, i will try that as well. I feel like there is a lot of corrosion inside the female plug. If I push hard enough and wiggle i get the plug all the way in. So i am assuming there isn't a blockage. I was worried with the dielectric grease that it could actually keep the contacts apart therefore no electrical connectivity. But i assume with a few pushes/pulls of the plug it would be fine.
