Hi again!

I have a Raymarine GPS that was already on the boat when I bought it. When I went for my sea test, it worked fine. My surveyor had trouble with it previously, and now it always has a NO FIX read on it. It powers up and seems to know where I am, but says NO FIX. Any ideas on a quick fix for a NO FIX?

Thanks
Monte

On my boat, the GPS display unit is powered direct and the GPS sender is wired to a switch labeled "Elec". When I turn off the elec switch, the GPS loses its fix because the receiveris not powered.

Make sure you have power to the GPSreceiver via switch, breaker and or in line fuse.

Do you know the model (120 or 125) of the GPS receiver? The 120 has been phased out, new satellite technology, I had to replace my Raystar 120 with the 125. Raymarine did give me a big discount.

Do you have the RL70 ??? is it the one that came new with the boat in 1998 ?

on my 320, just below the helm is the wire for the gps-- fuse, wire connection, etc-- all labeled-- I disconnect and reconnect it. Happens probably 3-4x per year at start up- always works (so far). Its the 70...

If you have 120 model chances are it's dead. Replace it with 125 model and you'll be back in business.

The funny thing is that I had the same problem you described.
After I replaced mine all was fine.

It's easier to de-power the boat completely - shore power off, batteries off, then back on - same for me - about 3-4X per year.

Another issue people have had is a weak connection in the antenna line.

I did not have an RL 70. Don't remember what I had, i replaced it after it failed. After installing the new one I contacted Raymarine and they told me about the retirement of some GPS satellites and that I would need to replace my GPS receiver (antennae up on the arch).
