Finally got around to modifying a Garmin suction cup windshield mount to fit on the dash. the suction cup mount was too wobbly and weak. I broke off the suction cup and drilled a hole through the center of the mount. The mount was the exact same size as the dash guage opening so I had to mount it to a piece of acrylic that I cut to fit over the gauge hole. I then found a piece of metal for the back and put a bolt through the mount, acrylic and metal bracket tightened her up and she is very sturdy.

Brad, nice boat, great explanation and pictures. Sometimes on this site all you hear about are major modifications and big problems (which I've had plenty) but a relatively easy and well explained modification is great and I hope more people post pictures that show upgrades like this. Thanks for sharing. Dan

I actually have 3 blank gauges on my dash. The spot I used was a blank. I tried drilling a hole through the blank gauge but was surprised to find that the gauge face was actually glass...not plastic. This mount works out pretty well, the suction cup mount kept falling off the window. It works a lot better than putting the GPS in the cup holder. I need to get a mount up on the bow so I can move it up there while I'm fishing to follow the contours of the lake.

I'm adding some more pictures and explanation...

It's hard to see but the GPS mount is mounted to piece of clear acrylic.

That white stuff sandwiched between the mount and the acrylic is a piece of a non-slip pad that you put under rugs. Sandwiching it between the GPS mount and the acrylic keeps it from sliding/rotating.

Hope this is helpful to someone
