Got to Block Island yesterday afternoon. Left Norwalk at 8 am it was sunny, went through the race and parts of BI sound in zero visibility. Arrived in Block it was sunny. Ok, on the way I counted 2 stumps, 2 4x4 s ,5 logs and the coasties made an an announcement that there was a 25' piling afloat along our route. Troublesome worrying about the wood while in the fog, during the breaks or clear spots you would see a log and say " damn 10' that way and we would have hit that one. The water was calm and most lobster pots showed up on the radar. Al this rain is washing this crap down the rivers and into the sound. Be careful out there very stressful watching for this crap. Anyway big shark tourney this weekend. Enjoy the rain.

If this thread were in the holding tank, I would have made sure no one was in the room before I opened it!!!!

Yeah...the rain around here has washed all kinds of debris from the shore into the local estuaries. I just got out of my bilge a few minutes ago to clean out my strainers. They got loaded up yesterday when I backed into a slip from all the floating 'grass'.

Our river has huge "rafts" of debris floating with the tide. These include large railroad tie sized chunks of wood, tree, pilings and assorted other flotsom. The other thing going on is that the outgoing tide is increased due to the high water upstream. What is normally a 2-3 knot current is now 4-5 knots at maximum ebb. Nums and cans are underwater at caused serious damage to at least one boat at our marina.

Be careful out there!

Thanks Ric, I hope the crap floats itself out of the sound before I go home in 17 days. Anyway theres a big shark tournie going on here. Heres a bif Thresher 260#, took 2 hrs to reel in , 60 miles off block island. Its over monday night. Good ole boys from Beaufort NC. Independence a sweet Jarret Bay.

Bring one of those sharks back for me.

I was talking to the G dock crew this weekend, They went out shark fishing with Walter last weekend off montauk in 8's. They all got drunk on wine and cheese the night before and everyone chum'd the water the next day. They caught 30 small sharks, must have been the chum.

I heard they had a great time. The rain and bad weather didnt keep them in port, thats for sure.

This is whats floating around Block Island sound. Keep your eyes open. This wood suck in the fog.

Ever see a utility company line spool? There was one in the shipping channel in Boston Harbor last week. Must be fun to hit that.
