True, but most places pre-assemble them onto a common backing with pre-mask for you.

He did the pre-mask for the spacing - on the larger ones it is harder to do before hand because the background is not attached to anything, He does do that on the smaller ones. I removed the 1st pic for you.

Who told you that? I used to work in the custom vinyl graphics business and we did multi-color assemblies pre-assembled on one common backing/pre-mask that were 50+ ft long.
He did it this way to save money/labor, no other reason.
