Somebody in a 330 da got caught up in some wind and current today and took out my anchor and bent the big stainless plate the holds the roller and guides the anchor up. Im not sure if I should remove it and straighten it or buy a new one.. To be honest I have no idea what it's called and no idea were to buy it.. so what's it called and Any ideas on were to get a new one? Two screws popped out and im not sure how to reset them. How do I fill the hole so the screw grabs again? http://s870.photobucket.com/user/xplicitlnck/library/?view=recent&page=1

Every time there is significant damage to my boat I call my insurance company. They send a marine surveyor who acts as adjustor. In the end they come up with a proper fix. I have 1,000 deductible and so far only one claim was big. When I hit an unmarked pile.
Based on what you mention you may have some fiberglass damage. If so it might be a lot of work to fix and large cost.
In instances of collision in my car I claim the damage through my insurance and they go after the other party if it is their fault.

Whether or not you involve your insurance carrier, you should know the facts. The area the anchor pulpit sits in is fiberglass/ gelcoat but they usually have a piece of 3/4" plywood laid in the deck for fastening stuff like that which is damaged to. It may look like a screw is pulled out, but the whole pulpit needs to come out and the underlying structure repaired then a new pulpit fitting in place, because I don't think you will ever get the bent one to lay flat and seal properly to the deck. So....this is more than a "bend it straight and stick a screw in it".

Next, that is a Fortress anchor and Fortress does sell all the parts so the anchor can be repaired. If the owner of t he 330DA has insurance, then you should tell him to report the accident to the insurance company and then present him with the estimate from your marina or dealer for the repairs. If you are lucky, they will just write you a check and you order a new anchor and get the boat repaired where you wish.

The guy that hit me did acknowledge he was wrong and takes full blame and responsibility for it. He has already called his ins company and I should be expecting a call from them tomorrow. Tomorrow I well also call the marina to have somebody give me an estimate and well forward that to the insurance company.
Never fails. I can never have a great trouble free start to the season. My fault or somebody else's fault there's always an issue causing down time.
Frank when u say the pulpit has to come off you mean the entire extension? Bow rails and everything have to come off? Now I'm really not happy. The incredible thing is im in between a 45 and a 40 footer. I sit a good 10 ft behind them but he still managed to hit me.

I am sorry if I misled you.

What I meant was the stainless steel anchor pulpit needs to be removed from the deck to examine the damage done to the area where the stainless steel trough mounts to the pulpit deck. The fiberglass is part of the deck cap and cannot be removed, but it can be repaired, if needed, once the stainless steel components are out of the way.

I have 2 concerns: 1.) the fiberglass, gelcoat and core inside the pulpit must be solid and water tight, and, 2.) I don't think the stainless edge can be straightened so that it will fit flat on the deck. Once stainless steel stretches, it is very hard to remove bends. You will have to remove it to try to have it straightened. At that point, you can decide if it is flat and square or if you want to replace it.

Sorry to hear what happened. I responded to you in my Anchorage thread..but will ask you here as well. Were you at the dock when I came by to practice docking at my slip? Did the 330 DA hit you before or after I was there?

That sounds alot better. I was going to say the pulpit and deck don't have a break point its one solid deck so removing it sounds like a disaster but your second description sounds much less involved. I searched for the anchor roller through plate. I find alot of other styles but not mine. Any ideas on were to find mine?

Not to sure when you were there practicing. I'm assuming you were there Sunday. It happened at about 1130 and I showed up about 1. From 1-230 I was going from marina to marina trying to find the guy that hit me. He didn't stop. My dock neighbor got the boat name but that was it. He ended up being the guy across from me abd he didn't stop because he was on the last seatrial in the process of selling his boat. Found that kinda funny. Wonder if the guy is still going to buy his boat with a hole the size of my anchor in the side. But anyway when he finished his seatrial he came back around to talk to me. What slip are you in?

I would say around 5ish. I am in Slip B32. In my other thread (Anchorage), you mentioned that you were directly across from me.

I am pretty sure the stainless piece is a custom fit for Sea Ray. You should call customer service and explain the circumstances and ask them to give you contact info and part numbers for their vendor. They are usually very helpful.

LOL... Maybe I will wait till you fix your pulpit and pretend I am the captain of the 330DA.

But not to worry, I am pretty good at driving and docking.

Jonathon, Those rollers were made by Southcoast Marine Products 727-573-4821 but are a Sea Ray only part. Southcoast's contract with Sea Ray will not allow them to sell direct to you but you can verify they will still make them for you. Sea Ray could never find the part number for me and kept telling me it was discontinued, but Southcoast made them for me.

Come to think of it...when I received my delivery package from Marine Max, I thought it was weird sitting in the driver's seat, or should I say driver's couch, as there were no seat belts, nor pedals. And my captaining skills are fine thank you!
