I have a next door neighbor who must be on vacation. I noticed that his mail box was open with mail on the ground. It was packed with the usual small Amazon packages, which caused the paper mail to slide out the open door.

The door was bent and the friction latch not working so I walked back to my shop, grabbed a few tools and headed back. While working on it I heard a strange and loud call. Didn't sound like any animal I've heard before and it was pretty close by.

When I finished up, I turned around and was face to face with a huge male peacock with his tail all fanned out. I've never seen one up close and had to make sure I was actually there and awake.

He wasn't giving up any territory so I got out of his way and watched him walk right up the middle of the road, bitching the whole way. I can still hear him in the woods.

NFI where he came from.

We have a non-invasive hoa. $80 a year. I can’t complain. They bring in dumpsters twice a year, hang lights and fancy flags from poles for holidays. Organize shooting committees to hunt the rats(good times).
And basically prevent idiots from painting their house pink. Otherwise they leave us alone.

There was someone up in our town that raised peacocks. We would occasionally see them loose and I am about 3 miles from where they were. So they can travel.

I wonder how they taste.

They're closely related to wild turkeys, so they may be tasty.

The crazy thing shrieked in the woods until dark...sounded like a house cat through a megaphone.

Quiet this morning though. We think it came from a place about 1/2 mile through the woods to the north. He may have found his way home.

Funny you should bring up Peacocks. Towards the end of June I was having morning coffee in my easy chair and a white (albino) peacock landed on my roof. Everyone else is asleep so I very carefully pulled out my phone to snap a few pics. SOB made me almost s**t my pants. Crazy……I thought I was tripping!

Remember without pics it never happened! :)
