Yep it is real, and it is also a real scam. The amount of people that create fake sad stories to try and get money is unreal.

There are a few real ones, but the fakes out weigh the real by a lot.
 
What do people go to the Go Fund me Site and look for people to give money too?..... that wouldn't even cross my mind
 
GoFund me is a real thing, but has become a tool for scammers to get money. I am shocked at how willing some people are to give money to complete strangers. I think there are also fee's and taxes behind the scenes - GoFundMe get's a cut and I think Uncle Sam wants his cut also.

Yes, it can and does at times get used for what I would term legitimate purposes.

There have been a couple occasions over the years where an airboating brother passed and left a family in less than stellar shape. Like the above effort, the money raised was put to a good, needed and justified use. In those cases, the money was a God Send and for nothing but good.

Frankly, the libtards that apparently run that outfit soured me when they showcased their liberal underbelly by canceling fund raising efforts for Kyle Rittenhouse's defense. While they had always allowed such efforts for what some would perceive to be Ridiculous Bullshit, they ended all debate about their biases at that point. Naturally, after he was acquitted they changed their stand and attempted to run interference, but for many, the damage was done. Just another instance where once you've seen the Truth, you can't unsee it.

I reckon, it has it's place and suits its purpose at times, but should not be considered above scrutiny.

Now see that is one I would give to, with the recommendation of someone close to the situation
 
Not go fund me, but this was an email I got last week that looked like it came from a friend of mine. Slight misspelling of the email address it came from and it was too weird to have come from him.

I played along until the scammer ghosted when I asked him to turn off his VPN so I could get his IP address and hack into his computer to transfer the funds.

It's her birthday, but I can't do this now, the stores around here are out of stock and all my effort purchasing it online proved abortive. I was wondering if you could help me get it from any grocery store around you ? and I'll reimburse you. kindly let me know if you can handle this so i can tell you the amount and how to get it to me.

So that poor girl never got her Apple gift card?
 
We have donated a few times but it was for people we knew or knew people that knew them. Never a huge amount but it has never been anyone very close to us fortunately.
 
I think it is often and best used amongst friend groups and local communities to help families in need. Recently lost a close friend who left behind a wife and 3 girls under the age of 8. Friends and distant family/friends were able to contribute in a unified way that ultimately helped them directly. But if you are shopping go fund me for a place to make donations , I have a ac unit in my 450 that needs replacing :). Super sad it doesn’t work. !
