After reading of others success when installing a digital TV converter box, I thought I would give it a try. As suggested in previous posts, I used the Artec T3AP-LS which made a very easy install. By the way, with a $40 coupon, this model is "free".. no shipping, nothing other than the coupon number from freeTVsignal.com. I never had any luck with the Glomex antenna in the past, but now I have a very good picture on several channels.

During the install, I did discover a blown fuse in an in-line fuse holder hidden behind the Glomex amplifier. Who knows how long it's been zapped, but that might have been the problem back during the analog TV days. I currently have the antenna wired directly to the converter box without the amp in the circuit. Does anyone know if the amp actually works or does any good in the new digital world?

I have seen a remarkable difference with the amplifier hooked up.
We have line of sight to Chicago from Hammond, IN, about 14-18 miles and I have around 60 absolutely clear channels vs. 4-6 fuzzy ones prior to converter box and digital changeover.

I've recently wired in the same model, and can add that the amplifier does work with the digital signal. I tried wiring direct to the antenna - bypassing the amp, and then through the amp. The amplifier is absolutely needed with this antenna style. The higher the gain, the more channels I received.

Isn't DTV great. Who needs cable or satellite with 60 Free digital stations. With DVD's you are golden.

I presume the converter has to be in a line of sight for the remote to be functional...

What do you mean when you say connecting it through the amplifier? Do you mean going through the Glomex? If I turn the gain up on my Glomex the picture is obviously clearer and so is that what you are describing by connecting the converter through the "amplifier"?

Currently I have the coax from the antenna connected directly to the input of the converter box without the amp in the circuit. After reading the responses, I'll place the amp back in the ckt tomorrow and see how things change.

Based on the positive comments, I re-installed the amp this morning. It does indeed help. When observing the converter box signal strength meter while increasing the the amp gain, the signal definitely does get stronger and the picture is less subject to fade on the weaker channels.

Thanks for the quick responses from everyone!

I hooked my converter up a couple of ways and the best is as follows. I take the coax from the antenna on the boat and place it in the "in" receptor of the converter and then I take a piece of coax and run it from the "out" receptor on the convertor to the "antenna in" receptor of the glomex meter. It works great and it actually allows me to split the signal to a couple of TV's with all getting excellent reception.
