New boat to us. Marina does not have cable so I turned the gain all the way up in the cabin. Can get 4 channels. Antenna looks original to the boat. Would a new Glomex improve my reception or has the technology not really changed in the past 10 years? Thanks.

Wet - it did not help the reception on our 10 year old 410, but they will send you a brand new one for no cost if your paint has deteriorated on the antenna...

I would assume a ten year old antenna only receives analog signals. When we got our boat last year I changed to a digital/analog Glomex and receive about 12-15 channels now and the HD channels are better quality than cable HD.

I have the original Glomex and depending where I'm at I get about 15 channels, most are digital. Painting it with a rattle can made it look like new, maybe that helped the reception.

Contact Terry at IMTRA and see if you can get a free replacement under warranty as a starter. Ive been told that digital / analog doesnt matter... same antenna does both. Also read and heard otherwise here. I got improved reception with the replacement. See thread for Terry's info and others exeriences.

I got a replacement from them and received 0 channels at my marina. 3 other boats with the same glomax system and no reception.
I gave up and went to Direct TV.

Antenna is fine... You need a new TV.... Anything that has a DTV logo on it will do the trick ... Swapped mine out at the beginning of the summer and now we get about 20 channels... Most Spanish and Korean... But we get 2,4,5 and 7 clear as a bell... Golf and football are covered... Doesn't get better than that....

TV is brand new last summer. Received an RA number from IMTRA. Mine is pitted pretty bad. If nothing else it will look better.

Coax screws into the bottom of the antenna. Loosen the set screw (Allen). Pull it off the post. You should have enough extra wire in the arch to pull the antenna from the post.

Should = not in my case. Come to find out the end of the coax had been pulled off of mine by the shrink wrap monkeys who wrapped at the end of the season the year before I bought it. Dealer just put the antenna back on the post and tightened the set screw. Long story short, I ended up buying an extra piece of coax and put a new end on it after connecting it inside the arch to give a service loop for connecting and disconnecting the antenna in the future.

+1 on the "special tool". I didnt have that, but asked Terry to send one (free or at my cost) when they sent the warranty replacement antenna. Works like a charm, but a PITA without the tool.

As a side note, I polished all my white above the rubrail plus the smooth deck areas and arch this weekend. A coat of cleaner wax and then wax on both the antenna and radar dome each time has kept both smooth, clean, and factory looking inbetween waxings. So much nicer than the degraded antenna before IMTRA gave me the replacement. Grateful for that!

Mine was a llittle different. The end of the coax cable is secured to the top on the post. So I had to unscrew he entire antenna...then pull straight up and off. New one will just slip over post and screw on. Not sure if this is good or bad. But my antenna is on its way back.

When they changed over from analog to digital signals, I installed a converter box on my TV (LG flat panel, original to the boat). The converter box went between the TV and the original Glomex antenna. I also disconnected the gain control. Depending on the weather we get between 15 and 20 channels. Not sure if this will work on a newer TV but might be worth a try.

Dogggg, you will only get 4 channels maximum in that marina. That is all we got with new TV and antenna. Towers are too far away, and our area is lacking in OTA digital channels, compared to these Right Coast boaters who have a dozen or more easily.

Thanks...at least I will have a much better looking antenna.
