This is a recommendation based on my experience. I replaced my manifolds and risers on my 350 Mag MPI's three years ago. I decided to try GLM based on their pricing. The old Mercruiser parts were 8 years old and upon removal the showed no signs of failure so this was strictly preventative maintenance. The GLM parts had a 3 year warranty. At 3 years and 4 months one of the manifolds or risers developed a leak. The other three were ok. I contacted GLM and they told me to ship the manifold and riser to them for inspection along with the receipt. Of course the receipt was long gone but Marine Trading Post was able to, after researching it, supply me with the receipt rather than just blowing me off. I shipped the 70 pound package to them. A week and a half later I received a new manifold, spacer and riser. The next day I received a check for my shipping expense ($80.00). In my opinion the manifold failure was a freak incident and also in my opinion both GLM and Marine Trading Post are top notch companies.

I also had a riser from GLM crack on me so I don't think it's a freak incident.

The PO installed the GLM manifolds and elbows on my 454's before I purchased the boat. About a year after I bought her I noticed one of the manifolds leaking water. Upon further inspection I found an 8 inch crack running along the manifold. They were less than 3 years old. The others were OK but I wasn't going to put another time-bomb on my engine so I bought all new Mercruiser OEM parts and decided not to follow the warranty route with GLM.

I think your fourth sentence stated it best "The old Mercruiser parts were 8 years old and upon removal the showed no signs of failure". After a glowing referral like that why would anyone else use GLM aftermarket parts on their engines and potentially risk failure and possible engine replacement.

IMHO there's a reason the OEM parts last 8 years.
