That's why I think welding up the hole is a better option. Especially if you go with the greaseable unit. You don't want that bearing spinning in the housing because when you think you're greasing it... you may not be.

I think the shimming was a better idea and easier than welding. Depends on how loose it was whether the glue will work.

Replacement is the way I would go. A bit expensive, but not moused up.

Make sure steering pins / seals are 100% while it's off, too.
