Getting Groceries The Alaskan Way

That was an interesting story. Us "pansies" here in the south don't really know how good we have it until we read something like that.:smt043

Are those food and provision prices typical in Alaska? What kind of income does it take to live there? I am absolutely amazed at how little that $500 bought.

That reminds me of one of the greatest comedians Sam Kinison

In Anchorage and Fairbanks prices are comparible to most L48 cities. In fact some things are cheaper here in Alaska. Fuel is still more expensive. We have super Wally Worlds and Super Targets are being built.

In bush Alaska things are much differant. Along the Yukon everything is shipped in by two barges each summer. This is everything from fuel to building materials etc. The problem this year was the Yukon froze early and the second barge could not make it to most of the villages. Know if you want something it has to be flown in which is twice as expensive.

Can you imagine going into a Wal-Mart in say Jacksonville Florida and paying $82.75 for a case of Huggies???

There is talk about building a road from Fairbanks to Nome, a distance of about 550 miles. I hope this happens, but the greenies will try to stop it like they do everything else here.
