I saw an interview of the boat owner today. They said people were taking up donations to get the owner another boat. He said he didn't want another boat and to give the money to the victims families.

It was an old boat. And if its anything like mine, the cops probably did him a favor by shooting it up and saving him a lot of money in the long run!?...

I would assume he would be somehow compensated for the damage to his boat

I would hope, especially as he called the cops and tipped them off as to where he was hiding. But who knows. Not sure if his home owners insurance would cover it. They might hit him with the "declined" coverage of acts of terrorism clause.

Some local DJ's were talking about this same sort of thing a couple of weeks ago, and several insurance agents called in to tell them that this type of thing would NOT be covered under their insurance. Also, the police dept. is probably not liable for the damage they cause either. All of this was based on what happened awhile back with the two women whose pickup was shot up by the LA Police dept during pursuit of Christoper Dorner. Apparently the police weren't going to pay there either, but ultimately settled for 4.2 million!

4.2mill could be just enough to sway your mind that you don't want a new boat........

I've been curious to know how many bullet holes are in that boat?
"We always try to take them alive" - Police Chief

Uh, he would have to have been in the boat with the suspect and taken a few gunshot wounds to earn that $4.2 mil. The money was not just for the truck.

I saw some video. After they shot it up they tossed a few flash-bangs into the boat as well. Surprised the whole boat didn't explode.

All the police would have needed to do was put a portable Honda generator on the swim platform, fire it up and wait a couple hours...

I'd be surprised if the owner of the boat couldn't put in a notice of claim with whatever municipality the Police Officers that fired on the boat are from. Stuff gets damaged all the time as a result of proper police action. I know that in NYC there is no problem with putting in a claim with the City if something like this were to happen.

Just saw a news release that he was unarmed when they arrested him, even though previous reports were that they exchanged gun fire. I'm sure he was listed as armed and dangerous, but someone may have jumped the gun so to speak and opened fire causing everyone else to do the same.

Stuff happens, and you lose a boat...

I saw a Facebook page asking for donations - they are trying to raise $50,000 to get the guy another boat. Don't see the replacement value being $50k but it is nice to see people trying to help out each other.

Yea... in one of the news reports it was said that the boat was worth $50,000... I don't think so!

Not a bow rider... some sort of cuddy cabin. I agree with your estimate though.

Definately not a bowrider and definately not 50k - If that is bullet holes on the side there are a lot of them.

i thought it was a bow rider based on the thermal images they were showing on the news....i could easily see the cushions in the cuddy and thought it must have an open bow....

Beware of these so called "Do gooders". There was a POS girl in NYC that set-up a FB page after the Newtown shootings claiming she was the aunt of one of the victims and was trying to raise money for the funeral. The cops got her pretty quick but she had already raised a sizable amount of money. It also wasn't her first time doing this. I wouldn't be surprised if the "donations" for this boat ended up in India with my lottery money that just waiting for me to pay to release it!

I agree. Maybe $6-$7000 max. But depending on how long he's owned it, it may have costs him $50,000. LOL

Hope he gets a nice new boat for his trouble!
