My westerbeke genset is leaking water. Its dripping from the bottom pulley. I assume water pump? Anyone troubleshoot this recently? :smt017

Need some more info:

-Model
-Year
-Hours

Most are fresh water (antifreeze) internally cooled. Is what you are finding water or antifreeze?

Is this the first time you used it this season?

Was it winterized (presuming you live someplace where it freezes)?

of course, more info would be good.

year: 2000
about 750 hours, but was rebuilt. Not sure of when. I am third owner.
It is internally cooled with antifreeze. The boat sits in florida, so there is no need to winterize.

What model Westerbeke do you have?

The engine will vary as to model.

I know from first hand experience, if its a 8kW, it would be unlikely to be leaking from the bottom pully as that is the drive shaft pully.

Are you getting coolant in the crankcase ... is the oil a more milky appearance?

All of this data is on a plate on the side of the genny that has the oil dipstick on it. If the genny is an older model that plate mayhave been painted over so look closely.

If it is water, take a close look at the raw water pump in that area and make sure it isn't the culprit. It could have a bad seal which is creating the leak. Double check the hose feeds from the raw water pump on (pressurized side) to make sure they are tight.

How much of a leak are you seeing?

are you sure its not blowing out the top breather hose and dripping down the pulley?

no, I'm not sure. I'll take a closer look at it this weekend. We have a newborn at home, so its keeping me off the boat....for now.

start the gen, put it under load ,get out the flash light and watch. dont get caught on any moving parts.
