generator

Stuart, I noticed the same issue on my 380. During testing and trials, the preheat button was mandatory. During one inspection, the mechanic ran the generator probably 30 seconds without it firing over. Then he ran the preheat, and it fired up after about 15 seconds. Hope you don't mind me looking over your shoulder as you figure it out.

JediJD i am glad i am not the only one. And i have discovered if you hold the button for about 10 to 15 secs and then give it a second it will fire, once started up it is fine for the next day or two. ANy expected time on delivery?

My 2001 380 DA has a 7.0KW BCGB Westerbeke. The generator has always ran well, but recently failed to start.....turned over, but wouldn't start. A couple of tries of 10-15 seconds and it would usually start. This model has a solenoid at the base of the carb that is a fuel shut off solenoid. When the solenoid is energized, a needle valve closes and shuts off the fuel, sort of a safety switch. Anyway what happened is that over time the needle valve became gummed up with old fuel, even though I ran the genset regularly. Took it out, cleaned it, and now it starts in less than 3 seconds, every time. I think the long starting time is attributed to fuel starvation. If you need owner's, parts, or tech manuals you can download them from the Westerbeke website.

We are set for dock 10, slip 30 at Park, and they wanted to deliver tomorrow, but I am in Florida for a meeting (d*mn it to h*ll). Friday doesn't work for them, Mon and Tues look like bad weather...I am thinking next Thursday. Becky and I'll be at the dock on Friday or Saturday to set up some bumpers...if you are around we would love the nickel tour...and look forward to the Westerbeke report.

Gosh, that sounds like a winner! I can't wait to start tinkering.

I don't know if I will be able to get up there this weekend. In the summer I am there every weekend. Adleast the delivery is wasting winter time, unlike mine when they wasted the last two weekends of nice weather. If you find out the genny issue please say.
