Do I really need to replace the zinc on a Kohler 5e if it's only been in fresh water?

Also, what is the procedure and location if it does need replacing?

Thanks

I would at least take a look at it to make sure it doesn't break off and clog your heat exchanger. It's on the bottom of the heat exchanger, near the front.

Look at the 7 o'clock position of the white heat exchanger (white tube) on top of the genny in the picture. Remove it gently to ensure you don't leave any behind.

YES. The zincs are about electrolysis, electrical micro current corrosion of dissimilar metals. It's not restricted to salt water corrosion.
