I have a somewhat strange issue with my Westerbeke 9.0 gas Generator. If I start the generator from the Remote Start in the Salon, it runs for about 3 minutes and shuts down. If I start it at the generator, it perform flawlessly. My mechanic has gone through and has eliminated everything at the generator. It only shuts down when started from the Salon. I'm not sure what type of control board or other device (Searay must have added) that we should troubleshoot. I would appreciate any feedback that I can share with my mechanic. Should I be contacting Searay directly? Thanks in advance!

May I suggest you save lots of time and expense and just buy a Honda portable genny for your swim platform?

Maybe this will help - The generator ignition circuit routes through the FireBoy fire suppression system. When that remote switch is on it closes one of the relays in that fire module which should be in the helm and that relay closes the ignition circuit for the generator. Now, mine is diesel but I believe they all (in these years) integrate with the fire suppression system.
You might have your mechanic look to see if those circuits are functioning correctly.

Or it could be a faulty remote gauge switch inside cabin. I'm about to replace the remote gauge in my newer boat because every so often it loses communication with the genset and will beep showing an ECU data loss which is a communication error originating from the remote panel and not the genset. Just a thought, maybe something similar to that.

This sure seems like how it is acting. My mechanic has been working on it again today and sometimes it will continue to run when started from the remote switch and sometimes not. It does not start blinking or beeping again, the light just goes off and the genset shuts down.

Sounds like a faulty remote switch.

I went through this myself two years ago and this forum saved me almost $200

If you have the preheat/ start switch that you push and it blinks really fast try this -

Hit the switch and count to 5 or 10 and then start it. Don't wait for the light on the switch to start blinking fast. It bypasses something in the control module that is mounted to the genny and everything works as advertised after that.

You nailed it! So far, each time I have tried this it has started and stayed running!

Thanks to all for your comments!
