A friend of mine is considering buying Sea Ray 225 Weekender and has found a 2002 with 200Hrs on the engine, salt water cooled and looks clean. I'm not terribly familiar with that Class of boat but was hoping anyone who owns a similar Model/Yr can offer her some good advice as to what she should look out for?
From the pictures it looks clean but it's nice to know what to look for and ask should she decide to move on it.

Thanks in Advance!!

Ray,

We own a 2006 215 Weekender, essentially the same boat as the 225WE. Overall it is a fairly basic boat without many systems. I believe the 225 has a fresh water pump for a single faucet in the cuddy. It may also have a pump out head. Those are the only systems that would need to be checked. Additionally, make sure all the service records are in order for the engine and outdrive. As with any boat purchase, a survey - mechanical and hull - should be in order.

Tell your friend "good luck!"

I own a 2003 225 Weekender and have really enjoyed this boat. It is large enough to be relatively safe in rough water yet small enough to be trailered. Be very careful about the engine even though it only has 200 hours. It is still over 10 years old and depending on where it was stored you could have massive corrosion from salt water. The hull could also be damaged so I would most definitely have it surveyed unless it was a trailered garage kept boat!! Boats do not wear out usually, they die of neglect and abuse!!!!!! When I traded my 86 Sea Ray for this 03 model it was in perfect condition. It was always trailered and always stored under a roof. It will easily last the new owner another 20 years if it receives the same treatment I gave it.
