Hi there, i have gen v 454's with the combo raw water/fuel pump drive unit. the seals apear to leaking on it {gear oil}. Anybody out there overhauled on of these? Can I just slide new seals over the shafts? Any advice appreciated!
Cheers.

Are you talking about the belt driven drive? If so, I don't remember any gear oil, but I found out the hard way that you have to check the fuel pump for fuel leakage, which can affect the overall pump. There is not much to this unit so I would imagine that it is repairable.

Been there and done that. All the repair parts, seals, bearings, ect are available from Merc for far less than the $500 or more they want for a new pump. I highly recomend you get your hands on the Merc service manual for the engine which covers this repair in detail. I remove my pumps every fall and drain, flush and replace the gear oil. This is one stupid design driven by one idea... make it as cheap as possible to put a mechanical fuel pump on a engine block that no longer had the boss for one in the casting. Search the subject on the site, it has been well discussed, including how to replace the mechanical pumps with electric.

Thanks for the advice... i am going to pull both of mine off and reseal them, as well as do the impellors same time
cheers
