Gelcoat color question

Keep in mind I spray gelkote so it comes out looking little dark and will lighten up after cured. Yes white pigment will work a very little amount goes long way FYI. But you may have the other white I wanna say 2 or 3 whites that year. For the red give spectrum a call they will match it perfect so much easy than mixing yourself. Then if gun runs dry/out of paint you need to recreate that color again if you follow me LOL. Get your numbers off back of boat that tells them whole story. good luck

@duckhead69
may I ask what specific gun/tip you use to spray the gelcoat?
Thank you!

Sherfab in CA will mix gel coat for you. They are almost 1/3 the cost of Spectrum and faster delivery time. The charged me $116 per gallon. You can send them a sample to match if they don’t know your color. 9099232200

Good to know, spectrum definitely high priced, I think I'm good for now, mixing oyster with white comes very close, next is the brown/red, a little more challenging.

I use a cheap gun throw away after 2-3 years Acetone tuff on seals in gun. Jamestown does sell one but it is useless. There is a quality gun out there made by Binks or devilbiss that you can buy different tips 2mm etc. But I really just help friends out and cheapy works good. I am to cheap to get off 300 for gun and then have it fail

any suggestion on a cheapy gun would be appreciated. I'd like to try something.
tks again!

yup harbor freight gravity feed gun 30 bucks

I personally have used the HF cheapy and had no issues with it. Just the basic purple ones. The shop I used to work at uses the same cheap ones but are fed from hoses. I got about five years out of mine with occasional use. I just replaced the o rings a couple of times. I let someone use it and they didn't clean it. The trick to the HF guns is air. Lot of air.

STYRENE and acetone if you dont have styrene you want like 10-20 percent acetone or thinning agent. Gelkote should run off stick after mixing up. Not like sour cream if that makes sense to you. DO NOT ADD CATALYST/HARDER until you get consistancy correct. If it spray like splattering it out rather than spraying it out. Thinn

Ok, so sea ray was not able to answer my question as my boat is over 10 years old, they suggested I ask sea ray club. Thanks for the info, it was worth a try
they said same thing in jax

View attachment 103328 View attachment 103328 Hello all, I have a 1987 Sea Ray Cuddy Cruiser that I would like to make some cosmetic repairs to, the hull color is oyster I believe, it has a color break at the gunwale that is burgundy or dark red, does anybody know what Sea Ray called this color?
Bought a quart of oyster, a little darker than hull as expected, will try to lighten it up a little with some white, not sure about the dark red, might get brave and try to mix a few colors to match it.
Loook at arctic white
