They make 3 GL5 oils 99735=Marine mineral Gear oil 99740=Semi-Synthetic 99741=Full Synthetic
Now Sailors, here is a tip when buying questionable ASTM rated lubs. The above oils are listed in acceding quility.
#35 says"Meets"all mfgs requirments #40 Says"Meets or exceeds"all mfgs req #41 says"Exceeds"all mfgs req
Anyone ever failed to catch that little diddy while reading labels on the lubricant isle? OhhellyeaIallwaysknewthat!
 
Bel Ray has been discussed as the OEM for the Merc Gear Lube either here or on another boating forum a while back. Don't remember which one. As I recall, from the previous thread, when contacted they would not confirm or deny they made the Merc oil therefore could not give an exact substitute BR part number.

Regardless, from their pricing it appears it is still cheaper to buy the branded Merc Hi Performance.
