Engines
4.5L Mercruiser
2004 Sea Ray 185 Sport 4.6L Mercruiser. We had a siren sound when the engine was turned on. Added Quick Silver gear lube to the drive lube monitor as it appeared to be empty. Now the engine will not turn on - very faint click - almost nothing. Boat horn and blower work and have switched between both batteries as well as set battery to “All.” The engine ignition still does not turn on when turning the key. Have made sure the forward/reverse handle is in neutral as well as the “kill” switch is in the proper position. Does anyone know what the problem may be and how to resolve it? Thank you.

I'd check to see if the main engine breaker isn't tripped.
It's located on the top of the motor somewhere.
It should be a big red button looking thing.

There is a little relay on top of the 4.3 liter (at least my previous boat had that) and I had a similar issue, it went bad and would not send the power to the starter. I jumped across that and it turned over to start. It’s a cheap fix if that’s what it is

From the description you gave, the drive oil tank re-fill and your problem have nothing to do with each other, unless you broke something else while doing the re-fill.

What you describe is a condition like a low / dead battery, bad battery connection or a bum breaker. Check the battery voltage with a hand held volt meter and let us know what it is.

First of all, I'm curious at to what engine you have. Your signature says 4.3 Mercruiser but right below that you state it's a 4.5 Mercruiser. Then to add to that, your post starts off with "2004 Sea Ray 185 Sport 4.6L Mercruiser."

Are we talking about a 4.3, 4.5 or 4.6? (I'm familiar with 4.3 but not the others)

I'd test voltage at the starter itself (big red cable) to verify adequate power, then test voltage on slave solenoid on top of the engine (port side near front of engine). You should have more than 12.5 volts.

When you turn on the ignition switch do you hear the fuel pump cycle?
When you rotate the switch to start do you then hear the faint click?
