Hello, I have a 2002 41 DA and the Synch gauge is not working properly. It shows that sync is off to the left by 1 increment. Can I adjust this gauge to read center when the synchronizer is on. Do I adjust the synch gauge or the rpm gauge that is under reporting? Are the RPM gauges adjustable? Help and thanks.

Randy,
I'd trust the sync gauge before the stock tachs (assuming that is your reference). Suggest you get a fix on the accuracy of the tachs before worrying about the sync gauge. A phototach might be the quickest way.

Your sync gauge is more dependable then your tachs. Your sync module takes readings directly from your engine and the readout on the gauge is the sum-difference of those values. In other words, your sync module does not manipulate the data in any way.

Your tachs however, do (in a way). The tach is showing what the reading is as expressed by the values set up on the back of the tach, and how well it is calibrated. The tach most likely is interpretting the value slightly off.

You could be due for a calibration, or simply some corrosion on a terminal on the back of the tach. I would remove the connections, clean them up if needed, put some De-ox on the connectors, and reinstall.

I would NOT, however, make any adjustments to your sync module (although you are able too).

Agree.....generally (on gas engines) the sync guage will show an engine miss before you can feel it....and then it will get worse over time until you can really notice it.

The sync will slightly be to one side, and you will add a little gas to the weaker side to even them out. After a bit, extra gas will not help.

Tachs on bot of my Sundancers were erratic. On the 380DA, I removed them and exercised the switches on the back, and they have worked good now for about 4 months.

My sync gauge does the same thing...I don't think it's anything to worry about..I feel that the digital sync gauges are very precise... It's showing you a one "bar" to port or stbd doesn't really matter if one engine is running 100 rpms higher. Yes- it would be better if they were EXACTLY equal but that kind of micro- adjustment can be trivial in chop, or having the throttles not set exactly. I'd only be concerned if there were 3+ or more bars consistently over on one side.

Rick:
I spotted your post when looking for a solution to my problem. I have the same boat you, assume he same factory set up. Here's the deals, both tachs seem to be right on, however the sync gauge does not function properly. This came on all of a sudden with no apparent cause. When I start the port engine, the sync ga. stays centered despite correct reading from tach. When I start the starboard engine, he sync ga. bottoms out to the right. I can get it to move towards center by increasing RPM on the starboard side, but no way can I get it near center with engines running same RPM, high or low. Have you had this experience? I did replace the sync sending unit a couple years ago.

Thanks,
Rick

I replaced the sync module, problem solved. I was hoping to get more than 1 1/2 years from a module (replaced last year) but I guess not. Thanks to all for suggestions
