As far as I can tell, the first several years of the 280da's (and probably other models as well) used the gathered, sort of frilly looking vinyl upholstery at the galley table.
The new ones have a nice smooth, two tone vinyl which, in my opinion, looks a lot more....appropriate for a boat cabin.
1)Does anyone else feel this way, or am I just not used to it yet (I just bought my boat)?
2)Has anyone replaced the upholstered cushions and if so, what kind of cost was involved?

Ya - that change happened in "05 - we didn't like the gathered leather look either a little too '80s (not that theres anything wrong with the '80s just not in an '04 dancer please) on a serious note I would think long and hard about spending big $$ updating an otherwise perfectly good interior - a perspective buyer might not like your mods and it might actually hurt the price at re-sale - stock or original seems to be the way to go with late model boats - we all take a pretty big depreciation hit each year and to increase your "basis" on somthing that may decrease the value makes it even worse! Obviously when talking about an older boat with worn out components upgrading during the restoration is a different story - Oh what the hell its your boat do whatever you want and enjoy it!

A smooth finish is more up-to-date looking in my view. The other stuff looks dated. It's your boat. Do what you or the first mate like.

We feel the same way, and last spring I ended removing them. It was a major PITA as Sea Ray actually screwed through the vinyl and foam to attach them.

We still have not decided what to do to cover the screw holes and I installed some cherry to cover the screw holes. The attached pictures were done at the time I installed the cherry. Since the Admiral does not believe that any upholstered horizontal surface should be devoid of throw cushions, it is now reasonably comfortable.

Saint Max is a 99 and if you are describing the overlap, I have it. I am neither here nor there about. Looks like higher end Natuzzi to me. A friend has a newer 380 and has the "flat" leather. I like that as well.

Thanks for the pictures, Henry. I notice you stopped at the back rests...are you going to replace them with smooth upholstery?
Did you have plans to re-do the seat cushions as well?

The pieces of cherry on the seat backs were placed there to cover the screw holes from the padding. We didn't really have a plan to finish, but knew that we did not like the existing decor. everything was removed carefully and could be re-assembled. We wanted to try it and see how it went. I have to say that it does seem more spacious, so I think we will get back cushions made and possibly seat cushions as well.
