i have a 91 454 mercruiser with a bravo one drive.

1) I recently had my inlet raw sea water pump freeze up with one person said was gasketish material in the pump. it was about 1/4 inch clump of gasket like material with fibers. is there anything with a gasket from the intake on the bravo drive to the inlet pump that i need to look at. the clump was too big to be sucked in the small holes on the prop housing so??? i know i need to work on the final drive but i was not planning on taking it this far apart unless someone here suggests it. any suggestions would be appreciated i just don't know what to look for.

2) i have a lot of rust in my engine cooling system. it is a salt water boat. Is there anything i can do / use to clean out the rust without tearing apart the engine?

Thanks josh
