Has anyone ever done this? Westerbeke recommends it at 250hrs. They say to drain and replace with 10/30wt oil which I'm assuming means 10w-30. The say to drain then reinstall on the genny and add 3oz of oil. Should I leave well enough alone or do this?

When I had my 4.5BCGTC out of the boat, I did the governor. It's quick and easy once it's off the engine. Removing it from the engine isn't too bad if you have a little working room to get to the belts. Recommended maintenance means just that.

Best regards,
Frank

I did remove it but the filling it once its back on the engine and the 3oz of oil has me a little confused. There are two holes in the governor and I think one is a "fill to" hole and the other is a fill hole? And does it have to literally be 3oz of oil???

It was two years ago. I forget, but I have the factory service manual at home. I'll let you know.

Best regards,
Frank
