I have a 1992 SeaRay Bowrider 180 recently purchased used.
Outboard 150 hp Merc XR4 (oil injected) and internal gas tank.
All of a sudden, for reasons I can't explain, the dash mounted gas gauge is pinned on full. Actually it's past full all the way it can go and never comes down. It was working fine when I bought the boat 2 months ago. This even happens when the batteries are disconnected. I have tapped the face on the gauge but the needle doesn't budge. What are my next moves?? There seems to be A LOT of wires connected to it? Should I disconnect all the wiring to see if there might be a short somewhere? I am thinking maybe a short in the gas tank float circuit? Any suggestions?
