Wednesday I see the marine police zoom by, there heading for a 28' gas Bertram from our marina. It was just off manreesa power plant at the end of the harbor channel. 4 older boaters jump in the water after the boat explodes. Thank God nobody was standing over the engine day hatch I'm told by a local firefighter. What a blast, 120 gallons of gasoline. Then it was engulfed in flames burned to the waterline and sunk as rescue tried to tow it in. No serious injuries other than a laceration to a heroes hand that dove in to help the boaters without any life vests on.

I must have just missed it! I was out Wed. afternoon for a quick ride out Pecks Ledge and in Greens Ledge past Manreesa at about 5 PM (Dave, I saw your boat at the fuel dock about then...)
Do you know if this was the Bert on F dock?? If it was it was a very clean older Bert.

why are you reading treehugger.com?

hi do you know what year the bert was or way it exploded??

will they have a cause of the fire report? tank leak, fuel line,carb-float stuck, propane? gasoline? ect?

We OLD BOATERS need to know if we have a bomb-a-float and what to look for???:smt009

after reading the Advocate There is a investigation on going.

If I hear anything I will post it. I will ask Val Larry.
Turtle thats what came up on the search. You know I'm a really a bushwhacker.

Spoke to a Norwalk fireman today and he said it was the Bert's fiberglass fuel tanks that were comprimised do to the E10 fuel... I heard this is a problem on the older Bertram's.
