After speaking with Garmin customer service and confirming with a trusted seller I went with the GT23 TH which should meet my needs. From info I have gathered 99% of problems with transducers is the installation location.

I have a Garmin 74 SV UD HD eco map and at planning speed it always shows me bottom depth whether it be 20 or 180 but that's not with side view or anything, as long as I can see my running depth I think that's adequate

I think I found a great spot for my gt23 thru hull was looking for opinions if you think this is good. Was thinking on the red or yellow dot or behind my ac pickup. Would you go closer to keel or the strake.

Thanks that's exactly the info I was looking forCloser to the keel is best. But make sure it is way out of line with the water pickup. That can cause some turbulence mess with the transducer.
