Garmin transducers

After speaking with Garmin customer service and confirming with a trusted seller I went with the GT23 TH which should meet my needs. From info I have gathered 99% of problems with transducers is the installation location.

I have a Garmin 74 SV UD HD eco map and at planning speed it always shows me bottom depth whether it be 20 or 180 but that's not with side view or anything, as long as I can see my running depth I think that's adequate

For sure carefully consider the location. A couple of things to consider:
As it will require a fairing block it will need to be far enough from the boat's keel so as not to hang below it or interfere with haul-out blocking.
Too far forward or sides will subject the transducer to air/water mix the boat will create moving through the water.
Too far back will subject the transducer to excessive turbulence the rotating gear creates.
Behind anything proud of the hull (intake strainers) will subject the transducer to turbulence.

The issues I'm having with mine seems to be with the extension cable - maybe damaged during installation or truly a length issue.

I also went with the GT23-TH. all of the shallow water transducers had their focus on side vu which I have no interest in. After I get this installed next week, I'll post some screen shots if I can.

Where did you end up installing your transducer I'm just curious

I am going to replace an existing one, so it is under the port engine close to the keel.

I think I found a great spot for my gt23 thru hull was looking for opinions if you think this is good. Was thinking on the red or yellow dot or behind my ac pickup. Would you go closer to keel or the strake.

Closer to the keel is best. But make sure it is way out of line with the water pickup. That can cause some turbulence mess with the transducer.
