Looks pretty cool, but is it worth $12.5K?

Me too. I didn't see the cost but figured it would be a lot. I wasn't wrong, but that's kinda eye watering. Plus you have to screw cameras to side of the hull - no thanks.I got that same email today. I thought the same thing.
I don't see that it is an auto docking system that controls the throttle / steering. Seems more like a system that enhances situational awareness about the location of the boat and surrounding obstacles, so the operator can then not hit the dock.Big time cool factor, but for 12.5K not so much. I could see needing it on a larger MY as seeing around the boat is difficult. But auto docking? Not sure I would trust that. I don't even have a bow thruster and not sure I would use it if I did.

... I need to find that article as to where this is going, it was compared to Lexus auto parking if I remember correctly. ...
Volvo also introduced an assisted docking function as well. They have it integrated with Garmin Volvo glass cockpit, but it seems not to use it much.
More of an extension of their dynamic positioning that holds the boat in a specific orientation so it doesn't swing in wind or currents. Only works with their IPS systems though.

Assisted docking is not interesting to me. Would take a long time to trust it - so many variables of wind direction, gusts, current, etc.
The increased visibility capability would be huge. Our boat has very limited docking visibility from the helm. We do ok with our headsets - wife is the "eyes" for me and she has gotten very good with her descriptions of where we are.
For a long time she would use terms of "close" or "far away". She has progressed to saying distance in feet - and even "coming in hot, slow down" on occasion.
