From the Garmin site: https://www.garmin.com/en-US/newsro...ets-largest-chartplotters-with-4k-resolution/

From Panbo: https://panbo.com/garmins-new-flagship-chart-plotters-the-gpsmap-9000-series-announced/

It's interesting that they will no longer have an internal GPS antenna and distribute the GPS 24xd with all new units. They will also not include and sonar modules like the current xxxxXSV units have.

So now if your going to upgrade from an XSV device you now need to also purchase a sonar module as well. Which can be another $700-1000 just to get back to where you were.

Looks like a real nice plotter though, much higher screen resolution.

Does HDCP (high-bandwidth digital content protection) mean their protocol is opening up?
We can now integrate non-Garmin IP stuff??

HDCP is a non Garmin licensed protocol. If you can't do that with your current 8616's then you can get an adapter to allow it. There are many on Monoprice for just that.

But not sure what there plans are. I only know what Ben over at panbo wrote up and right now it seems to still be up in the air on somethings.

At a glace it seems only in the 27" and up sizes..

According to Ben over at panbo, it's ~$10K for the 19" version, according to his article. But they're not released yet, only announced. So we shall see.

There are now product pages for the new series in the regular pages: https://www.garmin.com/en-US/p/794207/pn/010-02676-00

27" can be had for just $17K.
27", like the old day's. But a little better.

I don't know too many boat's that can handle a 27" MFD. That is going to be for some boat builder to incorporate into their build.
Not sure even the 19" would fit the typical Sea Ray instrument panel. It's 12" high, I think my panel is right about that height. Width for even the 27" might be OK. I wonder if Garmin is going to update the smaller models more suited for used boats any time soon.

The 19's are ~$10K according to panbo. But Garmin seems to be acting as if only new boat builders are their interest this go around. I would think the retro fit market would be just as big, if not bigger. There are more people that can afford a used boat then a new one, but still want the latest and greatest in nav. electronics.

Talk about hitting the nail on the head!

Was just thinking the other day, why don't they make a 14? And here comes a 19 or 27. I would think a 14 would be more useful than a 27. I would think when they get to a certain size most would use the blackbox version for a much larger screen if they have a need to go that big.

I have a few friends with Sea Ray's all older ones and ready to have the electronics upgraded. To Al's @alnav point, there is no way any of them could fit a 19" MFD let alone two.

When I upgraded my electronics, for the second time since owning this boat, I would have loved to go to 14", 16's were to big for how I set my dash up. A friend has a 55' Viking and he only has twin 16's. I think he could squeeze in dual 19's, but definitely would not spend the money to do so.

But to @Irie308's point, Garmin does offer a black box (8700) but only supports one monitor at a time. That also makes no sense, they're forcing you to buy two of those for a dual MFD setup when one black box could clearly support multiple monitors. Perhaps that will change with the new 9000 series offerings.

It seems they are not happy with their Garmin Marine Network setup (10/100) either and have switched to a gigabit (1000) throughput one called BlueNet. So now they have the Garmin BlueNet Network (GBN) and adapters are needed to speak and interface to the new network with proprietary cables. You will also need a new Garmin gateway to go from the old the new and a new Garmin switch as well. Hopefully this conversion cable will work without having the need for the gateway.

One nice thing about Garmin acquiring EmpirBus is they have now come out with a new 5" touch screen (TD-50) to control it with.

I will say, I do see this in my future so I can retire the tablet I have mounted in the salon.

Isn't that just a rebranded GHC 50? Would be nice if I can get all those new screens on the GHC 50

Sure looks that way, definitely the same foot print and/or case. Yeah no manuals or spec sheet yet. So it's all a guess at this point, although BOE has two in stock so there must be a manual somewhere.

When I upgraded my electronics 4 years ago I had to make modifications to fit the 8612 in the largest space on my dash so a 19” display is not in my future. My second display is an older 92X series that I was thinking of replacing this winter to a 943 but I’m wondering if I should wait at this point.
