I have an existing Garmin 540s transom mount transducer on my boat currently. Want to upgrade to a Garmin Echo 74sv. I live on LI NY. What would you think is a fair installation price? Mind you we are swapping out the unit and installing a new transducer. Electric is already run. thx

That's very subjective, meaning does the new unit fit exactly or does it need to be cut larger or a cover plate made up. Can the transducer cable be ran easily or a major effort to re-run the new cable. And of course who you are using to replace/upgrade the unit.

Not sure who is still in business since covid. Who do you have in mind so far or are you needing recommendations?

These are some of the bigger guys:
Hampton Navigation
CMI electronics
Blu-J marine

There was a guy at the Anchorage in Amityville, close by for you, but I forget what his name is. He did do a nice clean job from what I remember. Sorry been a few years since I lived on the island.

I've also heard good things about Mr. McLights. https://www.mrmclights.com/

I had a 270 AJ too. It's a very easy boat to work on with the ample room in the engine space and easy wire runs. I'd think that it would be a pretty straightforward job. A transom mount transducer should be mounting on the starboard side. Pretty easy to run the cable inside the hull on the starboard side, above the holding tank. Then pop it through the bulkhead and pull through the storage area, and up behind the helm.

I can't help with prices - I've done all my own electronics installations.

Some pics of the install for my Garmin 4208 with a GSD 22 sounder.

This is directly under the helm on the forward bulkhead in the storage locker.

+1 Mr McLights (That is the name I PM'd)

Labor rate can vary quite a lot so that's not a good thing to compare. Probably in the 2-3 hour range for labor, depending the variables mentioned.

Just installed that same unit on my 220 yesterday. Took about 3 hours and the longest time was mounting the Ram Mount for the display, since I have very limited space to mount the display at the helm. . The whole installation was fairly easy to do.

The only thing that may concern a home installer is drilling the 1" hole for the cable to pass through the hull, since that is what is called for in instructions for the cable clam to fit properly (I entered through underside of swim platform). I used a 1" hole saw and sealed the fiberglass entrance hole with resin used boatlife sealant on everything to waterproof the entrance.

Don't know what size hole your existing Garmin uses, but it may work for you.
