This info was also posted on an older thread relating to a different SH radio model (GX2200), but I am entering it here, too, to make it easier for GX1300 owners to find.
Proper NMEA wiring between Garmin 740s and SH GX1300 is as follows:
GARMIN 740s <---> Standard Horizon GX1300
NMEA Out+ (Purple) = (Yellow) NMEA In+
NMEA Out- (Gray) = (Green) NMEA Common
NMEA In+ (Blue) = (White) NMEA Out+
NMEA In- (Brown) = Not connected (Brown / NMEA Out-)
Wiring the optional external speaker is pretty simple: White (+) and Shield (-). Polarity probably doesn't really matter for most setups.
I did not have to change any settings on the radio. I just entered my MMSI and everything worked perfectly.
My Garmin was previously set up to communicate with a Garmin VHF, and I didn't have to change anything there, either. I don't recall if any particular setup was required when I installed those Garmin devices a few years ago.
