Garmin 545s GPS Install....done

Thanks Todd, thats very interesting. Have you wired the GPS to the accessory switch on the helm, or direct to the fuse block ? I appreciate the info as I'm trying to decide whether to fit the GPS myself or pay to have it done.
Dave

Directly. It has a power button.
I'd also recommend spending the extra $$ for the 545 v the 540. The screen is great and brighter with more detail than the 540.

finally had enough down time between work and play to snap a couple of pic's on my 545S install on a 240DA.

I installed it just under the wind screen, cause I tend to run in some rough stuff every so offten and take water up and over the wind screen often.

Here is a shot of the base mount and cable guide install. it was too tight to get a drill in under the windscreen so I used a Dremel instead to make the hoel for the cables and the pilot holes for the screws.

thanks todd for the insparation.

Looks really Good. That's not in your way while underway?

Nice and clean install though, great work.

i almost never sit down. it's normally to hot or too bumpy to sit or stay behind the wind screen. I'm actually thinking of modifieing the the helm seat soon to raise it by about 3+ inches so I can sit and look over the wind screen instead of sitting on the bloster all the time.

I got the setup done just in time as I have my first real long trip coming up in about 2 weeks with a round trip of about 250 miles from tampa to Captiva Island and back. I'm thinking about trying to video tape it as I go.
