In a thread in the General Discussion area, Turtle Tone talked about getting the snot beat out of him by a storm. In that thread, XM weather was mentioned as an add-on for Garmin 545 units.

OK. . .I would like to know if anyone has purchased XM weather for a Garmin 5xx or 4xx unit. According to the Garmin website, having the XMweather subscription also gets you XM radio.

That sounds nice. Except where does the sound come out? The 545 does not have much in the way of a subwoofer. . .. .

Anyone try this for real? Just curious.

The XM receiver gets wired into your stereo input. The unit you want I believe is the GDL 69A (XM weather and XM Radio). GDL 69 is solely weather.

Here check into this.

Hope this helps.

Not the GXM31?

The GXM31, as I understand it, is just the antenna, the receiver is what will process the data received and overlay it on the 545s.

I've looked into it, but we really don't get enough nasty weather to justify the cost....yet.

So do you have to buy a GXM31 AND a GDL96A? Then plug the GDL96A into your stereo AND the Garmin 545?

But the GDL96A is in the "aircraft" lineup. Why isn't it listed in the marine stuff?

Sounds like a call to Garmin is in order. . .. .
