There are NMEA GPS antennas that your Garmins and your VHF will happily use. I use one because I like having a single source of truth for positional info. Bonus points in that a NMEA GPS antenna on your arch will have much better reception than that which is built into your devicesThis is great. Thank you. I know there is an antenna on the arch , just not sure what model. I am guessing it is same era as the 5212 so no idea if this will match up with the new MFD. Looking at the 1023's manual I see there is a compass safe distance listed of 25", which is in conflict with my compass location at the helm, so I am figuring that the remote antenna is pretty important.There are NMEA GPS antennas that your Garmins and your VHF will happily use. As for your single source theory, I was thinking differently in going with the SH GX2400 in that I had a redundant source as a failsafe.
Just ordered. Thank you.That is probably a Garmin GPS 17 NMEA0183. You should take a look at the Garmin GPS 24XD. It also has a heading sensor in it along with being NMEA 2000.
