Garmin 441s or 541s for a Sundeck 220

I'm considering a GPSMAP 441s or 541s, or maybe really splurging and getting a 546s.

I'm concerned the 541 might be overkill and look awkwardly large on the helm of a 22' boat.

The 441 is a little less than twice the over all size of the 378 I have now (shown in the pics), the 541 is a little more than twice the size. Most of the size diff is in height since the 441/541 are portrait instead of landscape (my main problem with the 378 is it's landscape orientation - I want to know what's AHEAD!)

So - will a 541 look too over whelming on this boat?

I've also considered mounting it lower so it blocks the stock speedometer (port side of dash), which is kind of redundant with GPS speed. Thoughts on that?

I have the 541s on my 270DA and it's about the right size for me. I would think the 441s is only one inch smaller so it's a toss-up, Mike.

I bought the 440 for my 240 SD when it first came out. It seemed too small and I returned it for the 540. I was very happy with the 540's size.

I have a 530s (older model) mounted on the stanchion of my 210. I looked at the 430 at that time, however I wanted the bigger screen. I think it is going to be personal preferance, but I do not think it looks oversized:

You could try making a cardboard cutout of the two using their dimensions and place them in the location you would like to mount them.

Hey - the 5" model looks fine! Thanks for the pic and all the other feedback..
I had drawn some outlines on paper of the two sizes, but my boat is covered for the winter, so tough to climb in check out.

Think I'll go for the 541 or 546.
I did briefly considered the 640, but don't need the dual mode and would like to play around with sonar.

I have the 441s and it is a great device, that said a larger screen would be even better. If I had it to do over it would be the 541s.

Decided to splurge and go with the 546s. On a related note, been looking at pics of the boat from last summer. I REALLY wanna go boating bad!!!

Thanks again for the advice everyone - it became apparent the 5" models will fit in fine, and if I got a 4" I'd probably regret it later.

Get the 546. I have the 545s and the resolution is worth it and the newer 546S is NMEA 2000 capatible.

I used the method in the second picture using RAM Mounts mounting hardware. I was trying to see if I had the part numbers, but cannot seem to locate it.
